Seydou Diabate: Ein Meister des Balafons
Seydou Diabate, genannt „Kanazoé“, ist ein anerkannter Meister des Balafons in ganz Mandinka-Afrika. Seine Kollegen schätzen ihn sowohl für seine technische Virtuosität als auch für seine kreative und musikalische Ausdruckskraft.
Geboren im burkinischen Dorf Sambla, wuchs Diabate in einer Familie von Balafonspielern auf. Schon im Alter von fünf Jahren wurde er von seinem Vater in die Kunst des Instruments eingeführt und nahm an traditionellen Zeremonien und Feldarbeiten teil.
Frühe Waisenjahre prägten Diabates Leben. Bevor er zehn Jahre alt war, zog er nach Bobo Dioulasso, wo er bei seinem Onkel lebte und seine musikalischen Fähigkeiten weiterentwickelte.
Mit harter Arbeit und Talent etablierte sich Diabate als Balafonsolist. Anfang der 2010er Jahre führte ihn seine Musik nach Frankreich, wo er die Gruppe Kanazoé Orkestra gründete.
Heute begeistert Diabate audiences weltweit mit seiner einzigartigen Spielweise und seinem tiefen Verständnis der Mandinka-Musiktradition.
Seydou Diabaté, a Balafon Master
Seydou Diabate known as « Kanazoé » is recognized by his peers throughout Mandinka Africa as the young genius of the balafon, as much for his technical prowess as his creativity and musicality !
He was born in Burkina Faso, in the Sambla village of Toronso. The Sambla do not just play the Balafon, they speak with this instrument and from the age of five his father trained him and took him with him to lead traditional ceremonies or encourage workers in the fields. Orphaned before he was 10, he left for Bobo Dioulasso where he accompanied his uncle until he had the necessary experience to become a solo balafon. His hard work and his music took him to France in the early 2010s where he created the band Kanazoé Orkestra.
